Barbara Thurston, FCAS, MAAABarbara is an experienced property-casualty actuary providing consulting actuarial services to insurers, regulators, and other entities in Alaska and around the United States. I provide actuarial services for all lines of property-casualty insurance, with particular emphasis on workers’ compensation and commercial auto and liability insurance. In addition to providing technical actuarial analyses, I pride myself on preparing clear and easy to follow exhibits that can be understood by non-actuaries. I aim to make my reports clear enough that my clients are able to use them in their internal decision making. For small insurance companies and similar entities, I am able to adopt many of the roles that would be held by an in-house actuary in a larger insurer. I provide in-depth analyses of actuarial issues, and advise on underwriting, data reporting, and related questions. My clients routinely call on me when they are looking for additional advice on an internal technical matter, or just to discuss alternative options for a project they are working on. For larger insurers, I can provide an alternative viewpoint or peer review for actuarial issues that may be normally handled internally. |
